Why noise cancellation is more difficult on high frequency sounds (AKIO TV)

Noise cancellation works great on low frequency sounds, but it doesn’t seem to work very that well on annoying high frequency sounds. Why is that? A few reasons include signal processing, inconsistent microphone/speaker properties, but one often overlooked factor is the position of the transducers, and whether or not the signal processing takes it into account.
